An apple a day keeps the doctor away......

Random musings on the fruits we eat at work and at home. Was chomping on a green juicy apple today and thinking about how often we stick with the tried and tested and rarely experiment.....  At work, most of the time, my fruit break is the apple. Perhaps basically as once cut and served up, its not messy to eat even in a meeting or on your desk.

At home, I try to incorporate seasonal fruits into my diet. Currently the last of the strawberries, grapes, plums are what's in my fridge.  With summer round the corner, i look forward to mangoes coming around.

& whatever happened to the plain but delicious Indian oranges, you rarely see them in the grocery stores any more.

As for the apple, have you noticed how many fairy tales have the apple featuring in them. Snowwhite who needs falls into a dead faint after eating the poisoned apple. The Golden apple in The Golden Bird in Grimm Fairy Tales http://www.authorama.com/grimms-fairy-tales-1.html & i am sure many more. Snowwhite's apple sure didnt keep the prince away..... wonder how her doc responded....

Bring on the popcorn.....

Two moves i watched last year that really celebrated food. The Italian portion of Eat, Pray, Love & the whole of Julie & Julia. I was mesmerised and would have loved to emulate the protagonists on their culinary journey.

Eat, Pray, Love has Julia Roberts taking a journey to India, Italy & Bali to get over her bad divorce. In Italy, she learns to cook and cherish Italian food & wine. Italian food has always been delicious and the bright sunny countryside, large families, happy moments depicted in this and other movies makes you want to travel there and experience it for yourself. I hope to do so this year. Stay tuned, if i make it, you will hear all about it.

In Julie & Julia, Meryl Streep plays celebrated chef Julia Child and Amy Adams plays blogger Julie Powell. Julia Child was revolutionary in many ways and Julie pays tribute to her by cooking every recipe in her book and blogging about it. Just loved it.

What are the other movies celebrating food. Share your faves and I will try and have a look and share it on the blog.

Food. Delicious Food..... at Out of the Blue

Today I has an absolutely delicious lunch with a friend at Out of the Blue. (Union Park, Khar). For those of you who haven't been to this old favourite, its an indoor & outdoor Italian restaurant serving pastas, sizzlers, fondues & salads and starters. When the weather is conducive, opt to sit outside. At night, its candle lit and has a pretty romantic atmosphere. They have huge fans and mist sprays to keep things cool. Most times I have been there, there is live music and some entertainment. Today there was live music, an astrologer and a candy floss stall plus a clothes exhibition.

We ordered Virgin Mojitos (delicious) & I ended up having two of them over the course of lunch. We started with a vegetarian Ceaser salad which was delicious with crunchy pesto croutons, nice fresh lettuce, olives etc. My main course was my all time favourite pasta, Creamy Pesto Pasta. Its a house special at Out of the Blue and I have had it many times and its always been delicious. I had my usual add ons - mushrooms, jalapenos and sun dried tomatoes. Best of all, there are two sizes of servings basis your appetite and I had the small today. For Dessert, I had the (free) candy floss.

Highly recommended for Sunday brunch as you can sit and chat for hours. Also great for dinner with friends or even a romantic tete a tete.

Would love your feedback on your Out of the Blue Experience
